Brigade Sud Nice

(Преузето са форума underground.fans)

Hello Max. Before talking about the scene, could you introduce you in a few words ?

Max, 32, member of the Brigade Sud Nice since 1987-87. Since some years I worked on the group material inside the BSN ‘Direttivo’. I’m also following Torino where I had a year-card for two seasons (with RdM group) and where I know many people inside the stand.

You’re an active member of one of the oldest french ultra groups, but many europeans don’t know about it. Is it a problem for you being not so well know as Boulogne Boys 85 or Commando Ultra 84?

Indeed, if BSN was born in 1985 we aren’t so well know as BB85 or CU84, but it’s also necessary to replace the things in their context. BB85 are the oldest group of the capital, and the CU84 is the oldest group of the 1st French club which gained a European cup. Both these teams played at a high european level and are surmediatized (more Marseille than PSG), whereas we had rather black periods. Since we come back in 1st League in 2002/03, we make more ‘noise’ about us and we thus are recognized. But, we do not pay attention to what the others think of us. All we do if only for us, not for the others

You knew the BSN beginnings, and at the present time, you are always there. Which things changed in a favorable way with the passing of years?

The most positive thing? More and more of new heads in the stand and more and more of young people.

And for the negative side, why do you regret from of the Eighties?

Most obvious, it’s the total lack of freedom. Before, so much at home than away games, we could almost do what we wanted. Repression was non existet.

Why, in your opinion, most french ultras have respect for BSN?

It’s true that certain respect us (finally it’s what is said...). That’s due to the fact that since 1985, BSN always was present, even in the black years and that we always tried to make us respect.

Do you feel the fact that, seen outside, you seem to be one of the rare French groups to really having the italian mentality?

Our geographical situation near to Italy inevitably influenced us; but not only in terraces, also in our way of life,, more mediterranean than others. It should not be forgotten that France bought Nice in 1860, and that we are French there since this date.

Was this mentality always seems to have been presents on your premise, a will of your share to keep this style?

Preserving this mentality is not a will insofar as this mentality one has it in us. But if it came to disappear, one would do all to avoid it.

So much respect you, much also criticizes you. What do you think about that? Do you think their criticisms are justified?

Many criticizes us, but those which criticize us do not have any value in our eyes. We don’t care what the others think. With BSN, we knows what we did, what we worth, and i’s essence there.

In your heart and conscience, which would you like to see evolving/moving even more inside the BSN?

I would like to see young people more and more investing itself in the life of the group to the all days life, having an attitude more ultrà; that more people make away games.

Do you think that the fall of the club in lower division was good for your group or on the contrary at all? Do you think that having black years made it possible to the leaders to keep a certain style (less business) that you would have perhaps lost without these sporting problems?

The fall of the club in 2nd division made us progress less quickly than if we’d played in 1st League it is certain. But during these periods of 2nd division, we did not release anything (with tops and bottoms!!!!). We always continued our delirious.

How evolved your various friendships; I think in particular of Pisa, Imperia, Torino and Lille?

On the level of the friendships, we maintain good realtions with the DVE and the KEP from Lille. When we are ridden to Lille a few weeks ago, we have well accomodated summers, and when they go down on the Coast, we also see ourselves in Nice or Monaco.
With Pisans, we had good relations with the RANGERS, but for a few years the contacts have been done rarer. With the SAMURAI ULTRAS IMPERIA, we continue to visit them and conversely. The history continues.
Concerning Torino, we were closed to the RAGAZZI della MARATONA, but after Juventus-Reggina events from last year the group does’n texist anymore, but men yes. We continue to go up to Turin and going in away games with them. They also come to Nice. We have good relationships with the other groups of Maratona terrace.

Why to have woven bonds of friendship with Samuraï Ultras from Imperia, where others always seek to come into contact with the most important group?

For sure, having friendship with a great group is more prestigious, but it should be known that the mentality of the group is more imporant that the "size" of the group. We selected step such or such group for its importance, but for their mentality.

And concerning your rivalities? Do you regret your derbies Cannes?

Concerning rivalities, there is St Etienne, Bordeaux, Bastia, Toulon, Lens, Marseille, Metz. And then Cannes, the derby we miss it but for a few seasons there has been nobody any more. It would be necessary that they go up in 2nd league so that they find a good group.

Since its beginnings, BSN had a tendency pronounced for right-wing. During your stay in 2nd division, other French ultras estimated that this tendency had disappeared and that your group was composed from many immigrates. When is it today?

BSN knew years on the right-wing, and today there is in popular south stand any kind of people. We accept everyone. Our only policy is Nice, our party the BSN. Each one thinks what he wants, vote for which he wants, but at the stage everyone must be behind the GYM.

Which are your relation with the club, at the present time?

Since our arrival in 1st League, we’ve good relations with the club. We can see managers when we want it. But for a few weeks, repression has been stronger and the attitude of the club is changing.

Was it always the same ?

In the past, we had no relations with club managers, except with Mr Security, a real asshole

Like all ultrà, you follow the club, and not really the players, but did you already have particular bonds with some of them?

Since our return in 1st League, we’ve good contacts with the players. They’re with our image, they don’t release anything, they feel implied. When we fought in Lyon in front of the Olympic Council to preserve our place in 1st League, Cobos was as implied as us.
We offered an arm-band of captain to Cobos (BSN 85-HONNEUR FIDELITE) which it carries to all the matches since the beginning of the last season. I believe that’s the only case in France.
Recently for Monaco-Nice, some of our returned on the ground at the end of the game, and two of them done tightened by french CRS. Players Pancho Abardonado and Lilian Laslandes were muddled with CRS to make them released and one succeeded in leaving them from there. It shows well how are players with us.

When we talk about BSN, we think ' ultras', but also ' violence', because the face should not be veiled, your group is clearly interested by the thing, and you’re present when it is needed. Do you think that carries damage to the name of the group?

Damage I don’t think, because violence forms part of the ultrà trip, but all depends how violence is expressed. The reputation of a group is as well made by its tifos, its songs as by its "blows of glares". We’ll never let oneself make, we’ll answer always present.

From this point of view, we can note that some months ago, we spoke about the presence of BSN members in Monaco for a match against Lyon. In this style of presence, did it act of isolated guys or clearly of group credits?

In Monaco-Lyon, there was Nice fans but these guys were isolated. No watchword, no interest to go to Monaco to seek Lyon fans. In Monaco, you’ve very to lose.

Which memories do you retain of your BSN period?

Memories I have a lot of them, shitty games in 2nd division, with play-offs versus Strasbourg for 1st League, at the season we made the last year... Almost 20 years of anecdotes on the life of a group.

Now we talked about Nice and its fans, could we talk about the french scene?
Compared to your ' competitors ultras' of the old generation, how do you see the fact that certain groups think more of the money than other-thing?

Money alas becomes increasingly necessary, to make choreographies, to organize displacements... But there is, I think, limits not to be crossed, because when it’s seen that the CU84 with straightforwardly a shop, it’s deceived a little. Ultrà mentality is exceeded. When you think that in Italy, some group sell only to their members...

Do you think that certain leaders of groups so much wanted to have a ‘Palummella’ that they ran little by little their group for their own needs?

Certain leaders saw that their group took more and more of importance and ignited. They moved away from their group to the detriment of their image, but the light-back could be severe for them....

Today, do you think new generations from BB85, CU84, SW87, BG87, BU88 etc etc go on the steps of their ancestors or on the contrary, do you think they distort a little the image of these old groups?

Not I think that "it was better before". New generation has no more the same delirious as in the past. The fact of having more members is not easy to manage. They don’t distort the image of the group, which wants to say that one day, they will surely be with the leaders or old school of the group.

How did you feel the evolution of the French move with the passing of years?

Considering the reference for ultras is Italy, we had decades of delay, but the variation was shortened. We’re always far behind, but some French groups can compete with Italy. French move is more important than in the past, but it also must be noticed there’s a difference between ultra move and the casual one.

Don't you find strange that, contrary to other countries, little are the former French ultras still being present in their group? We’ve the impression that for Frenchies, being ultrà, in the major part of the cases, is a passing fancy of their life. Do you agree?

I’ll say that only real ones remain; but it’s a global solution of the foot in general which is to be re-examined. For the majority it’s a passing fancy, but I think that when we’ve 20 years of living inside the group we cannot stop like that, by drawing a feature on a part of its life. Being Ultrà, it’s a way of life, not a fashion.

Seen from outside, I only have the impression of two French groups, at the present time, really work like your Italian neighbors: you the ones from Saint-Etienne. I mean that beside your life inside the stands, your members are well taken in hand by leaders, that it exists a real internal state of mind, and especially... you’re still present when it’s needed, which is not the case of all ultras groups. Right?

It’s true that we approach our Italian neighbors way. The St Etienne fans, I think, have the same approach as us. That’s due, I think, of the relations that our 2 groups with Italian ultras have. We learned much from RdM (Torino) and I think Magic Fans learned many things from Brescia fans too.

Real vast subject already abundantly tackled within the French ultras/hooligans movement: the national team. Your opinion?

My point of view? I don’t care about the french national team, insofar as France (for me as for many Nice fans) represents nothing, as this country which permanently oppresses us since 1860, which pumps us our resources, which does not calculate us, which don’t care about us.
I’ve more common points with Tuscan fans than with Briton. "... France is a country of cops, with all the corners of street has 100 of them there, to make reign the order public they assassinate with impunity..." So, if there’s a union of various French groups for national team, that’s their own problem.

Today, if you were to speak to our users in a few words about the following groups, what would be your views, honestly about: Magic Fans (St Etienne), Ultramarines and Devils (Bordeaux), Auteuil terrace (Paris), South Winners (Marseille), DVE (Lille) and Paris hooligans?

****Magic Fans ASSE: hatred towards them but it’s necessary to recognize that I respect them. In spite of the fact of evolving/moving in 2nd league, they’ve, I think, one of best tifo of France. But it’s on, that remains Greens.

****Ultramarines-Devils Bordeaux: no real interest. Very good for playing with flags and to complain on Internet when other groups fight with them. They must take a look at their group and less to the others.

****Virage Auteuil: with MF91, the best tifo in France.

****South Winners: In decline, comparated to old years. But for some games they could make something interesting.

****DVE Lille: one of the oldest french groups which re-started with a new generation, but old faces are still there (like us). Good mentality, many delirious but they’re not in large number.

****HOOLS PARISIENS: what could I tell? No rivals in France, dans le top 5 européen pour moi.

A last word to finish this very long interview ?

It would be necessary that all ultras link themselves to make move back repression. Our freedom moves back from day to day. No more firecrackers, no more hostile banners, controlled away games...
French league try to propose stadiums like in United-States for american soccer, with shows and people paying expensive tickets for sitting all the game.
But we’re there and they’ll work with us.
Regards to DVE, KEP, RdM and all the Maratona terrace, SU Imperia, Nancy lads and for all who don’t like us.............
