FK Crvena Zvezda have been ordered by UEFA to play their next two UEFA club competition matches behind closed doors as a result of crowd disturbances at the UEFA Cup qualifying tie against NK Inter Zaprešic on 25 August.
One match deferred
From this sanction, one match is deferred for a probationary period of two years, which means that if a further offence is committed, UEFA’s Control and Disciplinary Body may order the original sanction to be executed, in addition to disciplinary sanctions for the second offence.
Various devices
The UEFA disciplinary body heard that Crvena Zvezda supporters set off various pyrotechnical devices before and during the match. Local fans also threw missiles – including a mobile phone, two plastic lighters and a coin – onto the plastic roof of the Zaprešic bench during an interruption in the match in the 82nd minute.
Security danger
The Control and Disciplinary Body emphasised that the use of pyrotechnics in a stadium is very dangerous for the safety and security of both spectators and players. Crvena Zvezda may lodge an appeal against this decision by 2400 hours on Monday 19 September.
